Sea lions, marina iguanas, blue footed boobies, giant tortoises, Galapagos penguins, rays...the Galapagos felt like I had traveled into the past before society became so advanced.
After a 12 day cruise on a small boat carrying 14 people, where we got to walk along the paths of uninhabited islands, snorkel amongst the turtles and octopi, and view the most amazing sunsets, I spent another month exploring the three major islands; Santa Cruise, San Cristobal, and my favorite, Isabela island. 

These three islands had completely different personalities. 

Santa Cruz was more developed and busy, but was home to many giant tortoises.

San Cristobal, a little less developed, was home to thousands of sea lions.  I spent hours observing their behavior, and was fascinated by how they interacted with each other, oblivious to human presence. 

Isabela island, the least developed of the three, was peaceful, quiet, and had the best Pina coladas ever. 

Highlights:

• Walking on the uninhabited islands, and snorkeling with the turtles. 
• Biking along the beach path on Isabela island, where I stopped in multiple places to swim, take in a stunning view, search for the giant tortoises, often found hanging out in the puddles along the path, and exploring all the places along the way. 
• Snorkeling at Concha de Perla (Isabela Island) A beautiful, shallow mangrove bay located just a 15-minute walk or 5 minute bike ride from Puerto Villamil. It is perfect for beginners and great for swimming with sea lions, marine iguanas, and rays. 
• Eating the local food. 
• Swimming next to the sea lions on San Cristobal. 
• SUNSETS!
